• Stem cells have the ability to protect the cells in the location of the affected area through the release of protective factors when these are introduced to the spinal cord a short time after injury has occurred.
• Recent studies have shown that the human astrocytes which form the major support center for the central nervous system’s cells shows good potential in treating spinal cord injuries as well as other disorders of the nervous system through transplantation.
